Rehersal

23, originally uploaded by siimt.

Last autumn I spent 4-5 evenings shooting rehersals of musical Grease. My sister got a dancing part there so I asked her if it would be possible to hang around and practice shooting dancers. It seemed to be no problem so I got myself bagful of Ilford HP5 that I pushed 2 steps to ISO 1600, Kodak T-Max 3200 and Fuji Press 800. Because of low light levels I still ended up shooting F1.4 much of the time and I only had my 50mm fixed focus lens. First evening was spent getting to learn the location, people, what happened where etc. As I got more used to dancers (and they to me) I got closer, between them, sneaking candids and unexpected shots. They are the most fun by far. On this picture there's a small break (there are maaaany of those in such rehersals) in the dancing, that's my sister and her partner waiting for next commands.
