This is actually a very small portion of this photo. I was playing with the original and then noticed these nice green leaves. However, after tinkering a little I decided to go black and white to get more abstract feel. Because it's such a small fragment of a big picture the quality is perhaps not the best. It's shot with Canon EOS 20D (excellent camera) with kit-lens EF-S 18-55 F3.5-5.6 (really crappy lens) at F8 but is still as sharp as I'm used to.
If someone's interested in the process then used Channel Mixer in Photoshop, set red channel to 0 (original was really green photo), green to around 60% and blue to 20%. Then reduced Brightness only so slightly and increased Contrast. Final touch was to apply tiny amount of Unsharpen Mask. Now, I wish I knew more about working with black and white, when I see some fabulous photos I want to do the same but somehow fail in my own opinion. Perhaps that's the reason I still go to local camera shops and buy Kodak Tri-X or Ilford HP5 which is probably my favourite bw film.

I use Powerretouche B&W Studio Pro ..
I just can't be bothered anymore with time consuming techniques..
Hi Marco, know what you mean. I'm planning to purchase Convert to B/W Pro 3.0 by theimagingfactory.com but for the time being try to tinker with Channel Mixer. Low-tech, I know :)
